I truly enjoy being a part of someone’s beauty transformation and want my clients to look and feel their very best.
I began my career in cosmetology over 20 years ago at the Carter Barnes Salon in Atlanta, where I was trained by Loreal Master color educator, Jackie Stewart. In 2000, I decided to leave Georgia and move to Los Angeles to continue my career. Based on my training with Jackie Stewart, I was able to hand select the salon I wanted to work for. I picked up an Allure magazine and decided to choose the salon that they had listed as the “Most Famous Salon in L.A.”, Frederic Fekkai salon on Rodeo Drive, in Beverly Hills, 90210.
I began my career at Frederic Fekkai assisting Color Director, Nancy Braun and head colorist, Dawn Ellinwood, and was trained on the French technique of highlighting called “Balayage”. I fell in love with this type of hair painting, as it allows for natural looking highlights that create beautiful ribbons of color throughout the hair. This also allows a client to go longer in between touch ups and preserves the health of the hair. While working at Frederic Fekkai for 8 years, I became a senior colorist and chemical specialist. I built a portfolio of numerous A-List celebrities, worked the Chanel fashion shows, as well as many film projects such as “Legally Blonde” and “Fast and Furious”. While perfecting my color and cutting techniques, I also became an industry expert on thermal reconditioning, otherwise known as the Japanese hair straightening process. I continued to build new clientele offering this service, and Frederic Fekkai himself became one of my regular clients.
In 2008, I started my own business and began offering mobile, private hair services to all of my clients. As a freelance, mobile hair stylist, I was able to work on some exciting clients, music videos, film projects and traveled to places like Chicago, New York and London. I continued to work and built my mobile business in Los Angeles, but life had another plan for me. After reconnecting with my high school sweetheart, I moved back to Oregon for love. I flew back and forth to L.A from Portland to see my clients every month for a year. Slowly I have transitioned most of them to trusted, fellow hair stylists and colorists and now only fly to Los Angeles, about every 3 months.
When I finally decided to search for the perfect salon here in Oregon, McMinnville’s charm drew me in. I found Mya’s salon and after meeting the owner Myriah, I knew it was the perfect place for me. I am so excited to work at Mya’s, with a wonderful group of talented women and begin building my Oregon clientele.
